Twenty-seven years, and we still like the work.

TruNova is what TruNorth Dynamics became. Same partnership that started in 1999, same conviction that the systems matter less than what they do for the people using them. Fair warning: ask us what we're working on and you may get the enthusiastic version.

Including the parts that did not work.

Mergers, an acquisition that looked right on paper, two genuinely hard years, and a full circle. It is a more useful story than a founding myth, and it is the reason we are careful about what we promise.

  1. 1999

    Two people start working together

Ole and Wes had already worked together before this. Nearly three decades on, the partnership is still the thing everything else is built on.

  2. 2012

    Fixed fee, on purpose

Rebuilt around flat monthly fees and recurring service instead of billing for time. Call as often as you need. It was better for the client and better for the company, and it is the same instinct behind Success Plans now.

  3. 2017

A Dynamics practice, and a hard lesson

An acquisition brought business applications alongside IT services. On paper it was obvious. In practice the two did not belong together, and saying so out loud is part of why we are careful about what we tell clients will be easy.

  4. 2020

    Choosing the work we love

The IT side and the Dynamics side separated. Ole took the Dynamics business because that was the work and the people he wanted to spend the next twenty years on.

  5. 2025

Back to the two who started it

Ole and Wes bought out the remaining owners. Back to basics, in control of our own direction, building the company we actually want rather than the one we inherited.

  6. Now

    TruNova

Same people, same instincts, a name that says what the work is for. Less chaos, more momentum.

Four things we will say out loud.

Any consultancy can claim to be different. These are the specific positions we hold, including one we have not finished solving.

On hours

Billing by the hour is bad for the client, and we have not fully solved it yet

Selling time rewards the wrong thing. It pays us more when work takes longer, which is exactly backwards. We have moved a long way toward recurring plans and value, and we are honest that the last of it is still a work in progress. We would rather tell you that than pretend.

The world changes. We can’t keep doing the same thing because it used to work, because it doesn’t work anymore.

On being human

Companies do not have to get corporate as they grow

Most do. The language gets careful, the emails get approved, and talking to a supplier starts to feel like talking to a machine. We have watched it happen from the inside and decided against it.

It’s more fun when we’re just humans doing stuff together. We don’t have to be distanced.

Ole Gjerde, CEO

On profit

Profitability is the means, not the point

We say it plainly because a lot of firms will not. A healthy margin is what pays for good people, real training, decent benefits, and the ability to say yes to something interesting. A firm running at nothing cannot look after anyone, including your project.

On direction

A vision should be directional, not a script

Nobody has all the answers about how a business should run in three years, and pretending to is how you end up committed to the wrong plan. We point the company in a direction and let the people in it work out the route.

My vision isn’t some magic perfect thing where I have all the answers. It’s directional, and then the company creates its own destiny.

The people who get it, and get it done.

TruNova is a fully remote, nationwide team, and Microsoft’s trusted partner for 27 years under the TruNorth Dynamics name.

Our story

We’re consultants, developers, and solution architects who actually enjoy fixing messy business problems. Most of us didn’t come from giant IT firms, we came from running operations, building systems, and solving problems inside real businesses. We’ve lived the spreadsheet chaos and the “this should be easier” frustration ourselves, which is exactly why we built this company: to be the kind of partner that listens first and solves fast.

We blend real operations experience with real Microsoft expertise. We explain things clearly, and we aim for solutions that make your job easier, not just technically correct.
