Power Apps
Power Apps is a low-code platform for building custom canvas or model-driven business apps that connect to Microsoft 365, Dataverse, Dynamics 365, SharePoint, SQL, and more. That spreadsheet doing the job of an entire department? Let's talk.
Why Power Apps
Put the right work in the right app
Power Apps is useful when a process needs a focused experience around business data, approvals, or field work. The sensible starting point is the process and data boundary, followed by a decision about whether a canvas app, model-driven app, or an existing Microsoft application is the best home.

What you can do with Power Apps
Canvas or model-driven apps.
Build visually from a blank canvas or on top of structured data, depending on what the job needs.
Copilot-powered app making.
Use natural language to outline your app and let AI fill in the logic.
Universal data access.
Connect instantly to Microsoft 365, Dataverse, Dynamics 365, SharePoint, SQL, and more than 1,000 other connectors.
Enterprise-grade governance.
Secure, manage, and scale apps across the organization instead of letting them sprawl unmanaged.
Sound familiar?
When Power Apps is worth a closer look
Start with the work that needs to change. These are useful reasons to assess the fit.
- A team needs a form, task view, or mobile workflow that its current systems do not provide.
- The process has a clear data owner and can use Dataverse, Microsoft 365, SQL, or another supported connector.
- There is an owner for permissions, testing, support, and the changes the app will need after launch.
What changes for your team
| Pain point | The fix | The result |
|---|---|---|
| Processes stuck in manual forms or spreadsheets | Mobile-ready custom apps | Faster, cleaner, trackable work |
| No way to connect data across systems | 1,000+ connectors plus Dataverse | One source of truth |
| Long delays for traditional development | Low-code, Copilot-assisted builds | Apps shipped in days, not months |
| Lack of scalability or governance | Built-in admin and lifecycle tools | Secure, maintainable growth |

Software pricing and implementation costs
Premium gives an assigned user unlimited Power Apps and Power Pages use with the included Dataverse entitlement. Per app licensing is scoped to an app or website scenario. The Developer Plan is for building and testing and is not a production license. Dataverse database and file capacity entitlements are pooled at the tenant level. Connector requirements, region, taxes, and the agreement used at checkout can change the billed amount.
| Plan or option | Published US price | Billing and scope |
|---|---|---|
| Power Apps Premium | $20.00 | per user/month, paid yearly |
| Power Apps Premium with 2,000 seat minimum | $12.00 | per user/month, paid yearly; minimum purchase of 2,000 licenses |

What changes the implementation budget?
- The number of apps, screens, forms, roles, devices, and shared components affects design, testing, and support work. Decide whether a canvas app, model-driven app, or an existing Dynamics 365 experience should own each task.
- Data quality, relationships, migration, premium or custom connectors, and on premises gateways shape the work. Confirm which system remains the source of truth before adding a new table or synchronization path.
- Environment strategy, Dataverse security roles, data policies, offline needs, device testing, training, and a named support owner determine how the app can be operated safely.

Works with your wider business
Keep the tools. Connect the work.
Microsoft Dataverse
Use Dataverse when app records need relationships, role based access, and shared business data. Confirm the environment, table ownership, security roles, and source of truth before building forms or migration routines.
Power Automate
A canvas or model driven app can start flows for approvals, notifications, and repeatable handoffs. Confirm connector licensing, connection references, service accounts, data policies, and Power Platform request limits before putting the flow into daily use.
Power BI
Curated Dataverse, SQL, or SharePoint data can feed a semantic model and reports. Confirm data ownership, refresh and gateway paths, row level security, and the users who need to publish or consume the result.
Where this shows up
Industries that use this most: financial services, healthcare and life sciences, manufacturing, professional services, retail and e-commerce.
Questions about Power Apps
Before you decide
Do we need a Premium license for every person who uses a Power App?
It depends on the app and licensing path. Power Apps Premium is $20 per user per month paid yearly and covers unlimited apps for the assigned user. Power Apps per app is $5 per user per app per month for one custom app or one Power Pages website in a business scenario. The Developer Plan is for nonproduction building and testing. Confirm the connectors, app type, and users before choosing a plan.
When should we use Dataverse instead of SharePoint or SQL?
Dataverse is worth assessing when the app needs related tables, business rules, role based security, and shared ownership across Power Platform applications. SharePoint and SQL can be sensible sources for other processes. The choice depends on the existing source of truth, data model, access rules, integration path, and the team that will maintain it.
What makes a Power Apps implementation take more work?
App count and reuse, data cleanup or migration, connector and gateway setup, security roles, environment strategy, offline or device needs, testing, training, and support all affect the delivery work. A focused workflow with a clear owner is easier to plan than a collection of loosely defined apps.
